“Uptown’s skyline at dusk will be the backdrop for the “CBS Evening News with Katie Couric” on Friday, as the newscast originates from Charlotte in its first stop on a three-city tour of election-year battleground states.
In addition to the presidential race, Couric will focus on the tight U.S. Senate contest between Elizabeth Dole and Kay Hagan and will feature interviews with both.
A set for the program will be erected on the roof of the four-story Charlotte School of Law on Suttle Avenue, which is off Wilkinson Boulevard on the edge of uptown.”

“As the financial world remakes itself almost daily, Charlotte is getting another dose of national media attention – this time from CBS’ ’60 Minutes.’
Correspondent Lesley Stahl was in town this week to do a piece on Charlotte’s role in the banking roller coaster, which has included Bank of America’s planned purchase of Merrill Lynch & Co. and Wachovia’s ultimate sale to Wells Fargo & Co. On Wednesday, Stahl interviewed Bank of America CEO Ken Lewis and his predecessor Hugh McColl Jr., a source told the Insider.
A ’60 Minutes’ producer confirmed the piece is set to run Sunday.”

“Bank of America to be featured Sunday on CBS’ 60 Minutes
Bank of America Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ken Lewis will appear on the CBS newsmagazine 60 Minutes Sunday, following an interview this week with Lesley Stahl, one of the show’s correspondents.
Bank of America and Charlotte will be featured in a segment that is expected to air at 7 p.m. Oct. 19 (check local listings for time and channel). Producers spent two days in Charlotte gathering footage and interviews to highlight the city’s two big banks — Bank of America and Wachovia. The story will focus on how the two companies have grown, the rivalry they’ve shared, how each is working through the credit crunch and the recent mergers announced by each company.
Other interviews that will be part of the story include Hugh McColl, former Bank of America CEO, Tony Plath, University of North Carolina Charlotte finance professor, Charlotte officials and Wachovia employees.
During the interview, Stahl and Lewis spoke about the investment the federal government is making in the form of preferred, nonvoting shares in the nation’s largest financial companies and the potential implications those stakes may have on the financial system and capitalism. They discussed access to credit for companies and individuals, and the safety of consumer deposits.
Other topics covered in the interview include, the planned acquisition of Merrill Lynch & Co., the integration of Countrywide Financial, the U.S. economy and Bank of America’s focus on weathering the current economic storm.”
