How to re-purpose Christmas M&Ms (and save big money)

Have you noticed local grocery stores have those “holiday” M&Ms on clearance right now? A 12.6 ounce bag of red and green candy-coated chocolate treats normally sells for $4.29 at my local Food Lion. (Who pays that much for M&Ms, honestly?!) Today, I bought a bag for just $1.07. (Cha-ching!)
Why are they so cheap right now (besides being several weeks old)? Well, the obvious answer is the bags only contain the red and green colors — the traditional colors of the Christmas holiday. Christmas has passed, stores are already beginning to stock swimsuits for summer (seriously!), and these M&Ms are yesterday’s news.
But wait, what if there was a way to re-purpose those holiday M&Ms … for say, a different holiday? or even 2 different holidays? Well, let me tell you right now, you can!
Step 1 — Buy a bag of red-and-green “holiday” M&Ms on clearance (save big money)
Step 2 — Pour all of the M&Ms into a bowl
Step 3 — Separate the red M&Ms and the green M&Ms into different bowls
You’re now ready for both Valentine’s Day (February 14 — red M&Ms) and St. Patrick’s Day (March 17 — green M&Ms)!
As an added bonus, if you book a Van Halen concert, you’ll have the M&M portion of their contract covered.
(Disclaimer: If you’re hoping the green ones can be used at Valentine’s Day as an aphrodisiac, well, that’s not going to work.)
