Spotted: what is this new Uptown sign on Independence for?
Posted on 28 Mar 2010 by Justin Ruckman
Saw this sign on Independence heading Uptown today. Are they labeling routes to the different sections/wards? I haven’t seen anything Uptown matching this.
I think this is part of the wayfinding system CDOT is implementing. It is kind of a direction-based replacement for the “wards”. There are already signs on sidewalks around uptown that Use this notation. This may tie into another set of signs listing where parking is available.
Yeah, what Brendan said sounds about right. They’ve had those NESW signs on the sidewalks around uptown for months. Makes sense to have them on the roads too. Could also tie in to road directions for the landmarks in that certain part of uptown like the street signs do. .
Cool, I haven’t seen any of the signs uptown yet, but I haven’t really been looking.
Ya, I noticed quite a few new signs of late. Independence Blvd is now Independence Parkway
Seriously?! Where is it saying that?
Im thinking I saw it on john belk, or is that 277, the loop right near cpcc, metropolitan, looping back toward bus center right b4 Davidson St. exit
Wow. I feel sorry for people who can’t get a general idea of the direction they are going. The sun is pretty much always to the South, then figure the rest by time of day.
Unless that time of day is night.
I want to say I’ve seen this exact color coding on signage in Uptown. Maps on light posts near Trade & Tryon perhaps?
There’s a sign on the 12th street exit off of 277 (coming from Independence) that has the “N” indicators on them — actually on 12th, not on 277. One goes to North Davidson, there are two or three other lines on the sign as well, but I couldn’t make out the details on the others (I was headed towards the Brookshire). Presumably these are indeed indicating wards or something similar…
