On Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at 6:30pm, University of North Carolina at Charlotte students who are interested in bringing football to UNC Charlotte will rally at the Belk Tower located on Charlotte’s campus and march to Chancellor Dubois’ house and present a make shift field goal as a sign of their desire to bring football to UNC Charlotte. The rally will take place two days before Chancellor Dubois presents his recommendation on football and the board of trustee officially votes.
The “March to the Endzone” is a grassroots movement with many students, alumni, and families planning to attend. As of September 11th, there are 674 people committed to attend, according to the Facebook event created to organize this event. There will be free t-shirts, food, and mini footballs, which will be used to spell out “We want football” in front of the Chancellor’s house. The intention of the rally is to peacefully and respectfully show the desire to bring college football to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Anyone who is interested in bringing football to Charlotte is welcome to come and participate. More information about the rally and the issue of bringing college football to Charlotte can be found at charlotte49erfootball.com.
